Hi all,
I just changed my box with a new supermicro x10SBA mobo + 8 gb ram
the install works fine until the first reboot where it supposed to load from disck and open the latest config pannel (interfaces, ip, gateway mode etc).I'm not able to see that console....it loads fine till some point.I suspect the video driver/module cz i connect only via hdmi to my display.
Any clue? can i make the condif somehow via cli?

Okay, I prepared a USB stick. I tried a other stick (2GB) and the Clearcenter how-to is working fine. Cool we can now install ClearOS this way. Installed ClearOS Professional x64. All went fast and smooth. The Network config screen is working again. Like mihai I installed this on the server which has problems with the previous ISO. Good job and thank you. -

I have an ISO for some people to test that has the fix integrated in it. I know many of you use ClearOS for production but if you have a test server that was previously (and adversely) affected by the black screen on console 1 could you try out this ISO install and let me know how it goes?

Thanks for everyone's feedback...here is what is going on:
Previous versions of ClearOS would use a minimalist configuration file for Xwindows in order to produce the graphical console. To be clear, the graphical console these days is only useful for configuring network cards. Full functionality of webconfig is 'hidden/restricted' to the console because in order to have all the bits working for Webconfig you would need a full XWindows session with Full-blown Mozilla Firefox and all the bells and whistles.
Well, we don't want a bloated install and the graphical console is really a bit of bloat that is added to create a convenience for network administrators to configure ClearOS just up to the point that you can reach Webconfig with a real web browser. So the minimal install that we have going used a bit of a cheat to make sure that the console would work on most every system out there. Specifically, we'd put the screen in 800x600 and the system would typically just work out the rest of the bits.
Well, the core packages have changed somewhat and this leaves us with a bug that is sometimes there and sometimes not. For example, on my intel-based graphics card the vm.conf file with the basic settings messes me up. To fix the problem, I simply delete the file and it works!
On my silicon-graphics machine, CentOS will experience no problem with a blank config if I install the Desktop version of the OS...but if I install ClearOS and then all of the same CentOS packages, it still has a problem running under blank config. If I run the Xorg -configure...voila! It works just fine.
The current solution that we have so far is to run Xorg -configure at the right point. This will create a config file for the intel graphics machines that DON'T need one at all and will create one that should also work for many, many other chipsets. If it doesn't work then this group of people have interesting graphic card that may just need the same TLC that we would have to give very rarely in support with the old 800x600.
But here is something to try. Our new release of the 6.6 ISO and patch (coming very, very soon) will look to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ directory and inquire to see if there is a vm.conf file. If there is not, it will use Xorg -configure to make one and put it in place.
So if your vm.conf is bad remove it (mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/vm.conf /root/vm.conf.old) and then system will automatically generate a new one using Xorg -configure and put it in the right place.
Perchance the vm.conf file that it makes is bad? You can hand modify it for sure but you can also see if the system is just smart enough to work around not having one at all just like my intel-based test boxes. If you want to test a blank config, move the bad one aside (mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/vm.conf /root/vm.conf.old) and then create a blank one(touch /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/vm.conf).
Let us know if you have further issues on this topic and check next week to grab a better copy of the 6.6 iso. -

Our upstream linux distribution changed some fundamental things which renders the Xconsole a bit wonky. In the past we had included a config that was very stripped down and very basic. That doesn't seem to work here now for some and some users (even some users of ClearBOX) will end up with an invalid Screen set. We will have a fix for the mainline code that should work and we need people to test the update that fixes this. Peter will give some info for testers.
If you really, really need a quick fix you can remove the vm.conf file and recreate one that works with your monitor. Perform the following steps to do a manual intervention of your Clearconsole:
1) Exit the console session to another screen by typing Ctrl+Alt+F2.
2) Log into this console as 'root'
3) Kill the Xwindows session with 'killall xinit'
4) move the vm.conf file:
mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/vm.conf /root/vm.conf.bad
5) recreate a new config:
/usr/bin/Xorg -configure
6) Move this new file into place:
mv /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/vm.conf
7) Switch back to the Text console by pressing typing 'exit' and Enter. Then type Ctrl+Alt+F1
8) Log into the TUI console by supplying the root password for the 'Administrator' login.
9) "Launch Graphics-mode Console" by pressing F2 or by pressing <Enter> with that option highlighted.
This work for IBM Xseries and Lennovo. Thanks.
Hopefully the new ISO, was released soon. -

David I suggested your fix for the following problem: Install 6.6 on VMware ESXI 5.5 and it seems to have been successful. -

Have tested the same on several other J1900 mobo's. None of them worked as expected. Works in console mode, but gui install wizard doesn't start. -

We seem to be having another round of blank screens in ClearOS 6.6. If possible, try changing the contents of /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/vm.conf to:
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Monitor "Configured Monitor"
Device "Configured Video Device"
DefaultDepth 24
Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubsection
EndSection
And then reboot. -

I had a similar problem a year ago and I had to change the grub line. It is now:
The critical bit is the vga=791 but you can't change that in grub.conf on its own or ClearOS changes it back. I cannot remember what the other bits I had to change were. I also have removed the bit giving the splash screen, so you can see all the boot messages, but, again, I don't remember which parameter that was.kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.32-504.8.1.v6.x86_64 ro root=UUID=2ea45e58-9dcb-4a0d-b405-7d9d3a30426a rd_NO_LUKS KEYBOARDTYPE=pc KEYTABLE=uk LANG=en_US.UTF-8 rd_NO_MD SYSFONT=latarcyrheb-sun16 crashkernel=auto rd_NO_LVM rd_NO_DM video=vesafb vga=791
If you can get to a command line with alt+F2 or ctl+alt+f2, then can you perhaps try this solution? -
