I installed Clearos 7.2 on a computer to work as gateway, but it does not detect a network card of the two installed.
The question is: what is the procedure for installing new network cards?
I'm realy newbie in the world of Clearos, and I want someone to tell me what I can do, step by step.
Note: When I install clearos 5.2 on this computer, it does detect both network cards
Thank you for your consideration.

You're in luck. Your NIC needs the via-rhine driver and the source is available from ElRepo so I can compile it. Please download and install the kmod-via-rhine file from here.

Both the b43 and b43legacy drivers were deprecated in EL7 and it appears that the wl driver does not support the BCM4318. There is no ElRepo driver, but there is some info on the internet but you'll need a lot of searching
If it is any consolation, putting a wireless NIC into the server is often not brilliant as the server is often not in a good location for WiFi coverage of the premises. Using a redundant router, connected LAN to LAN is often better (but remember to disable its DHCP and give it a sensible IP address) -

I installed the forcedeth, and was able to get one working.
Used lspci and found the other (wireless) network card

Network Controller: BroadCom Corp BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 882.11g Wireless LAN Controller
Subsystem: Linksys WMP54GS v1.1 802.11g Wireless-G PCI Adapter with SpeedBooster
I looked it up and found these drivers, but I don't know which one would correspond to the drivers for ClearOS
Was hoping to use this card to broadcast internal (Gateway) WIFI
I've heard you need to use Atheros for this . . . . -

Judging by the drivers on their site, it looks like it should use the r8169 driver. That should work out of the box in ClearOS which comes with the correct driver.
[edit]
I don't know which drivers you tried installing but I think you needed the forcedeth one for your NIC's.

Thanks for the helps Nick/Tony
I posted a response, but it didn't go through for some reason. Perhaps my session timed out.
I was able to get the drivers onto a CD, installed them (I think), but don't know if they worked (the install said it did, but when I booted back up, no NICs found)
I bought an old (10+ years) NIC (Cnet PRO200) but could not find any drivers for it.
Looking to get at least one ethernet working. Would this one on Amazon work?

You might find this interesting... http://superuser.com/questions/853792/what-is-it-that-makes-some-usb-sticks-not-bootable Some find the Kingston USB 2.0 DataTraveller, for instance, causing boot problems... Even USB version of the flash drive makes a difference. One report has a Sandisk Cruzer Fit USB 2.0 working and the Sandisk Cruzer Fit USB 3.0 failing for a boot device. Sometimes the problem can be solved by deleting all partitions and re-partitioning.
The instructions I wrote were while performing the procedure on ClearOS 7.3, and later verified on a ClearOS 6.8 system. What make of motherboard and BIOS level? Latest BIOS installed? What brand USB flash drive? Tried a different drive? -

Tony,
Thanks for the help.
I tried mounting like you mentioned but got:
16220.466234 FAT-fs (sdc):invalid media value (0x56)
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdc, missing codepage of helper program, or other error
Partition Table: msdos
Disk Flags:
Number Start End Size Type fs Flag
1 4194kB 7948kB 7944 MB Primary fat32 boot
Now I am remembering, I could not boot from USB, so I had to use a disk.
My BIOS could be giving me grief, might have to put the data on a CD
Thanks! -

This is some help for "Getting USB to mount should not be a big problem"
Copy your files to a small FAT formatted USB drive stick - best to stick with 8.3 filenames
(You cannot read NTFS on ClearOS without installing additional software)
Insert USB drive into a USB port on ClearOS server
Look at /var/log/meesages for something like this...

As you can see the USB drive files are on /dev/sdb1 in my case. Substitute yours in the following commands
Go to the /mnt directory
# cd /mnt
Make a new directory - called mine USB
# mkdir USB
now mount the USB drive
# mount -t msdos /dev/sdb1 /mnt/USB
Change directory to your USB stick
# cd /mnt/USB
Check your files
# ls -lad *

Copy your file(s) to someplace
change to the directory you copied your file(s) to...
unmount the USB drive so you can remove it
# umount /dev/sdb1
Install your rpm(s)
# yum localinstall XXXXXXX.rpm -

Without internet connectivity you will struggle big time to compile any drivers because of the packages you'll need to download. Getting USB to mount should not be a big problem.
If you can post the output of "lspci -k | grep Eth -A 3" it would help me identify the driver needed (which may well be the forcedeth driver). There is a way of running the lspci command to give the PCI ID as well. This would be helpful but I can't remember it offhand.
Obviously it would be easier to buy a new card, but that does not guarantee compatibility. Many new gigabit cards have the RTL8111/RTL8168 chip. ClearOS comes with a driver which will load but is not very good. Other cards could be too new! Generally Intel ones are safe (and expensive), but not always. -

Hi there,
I also have a similar problem, except BOTH of my network cards are not detected when I try to install ClearOS 7.2
1) What is the recommended way to install ClearOS 7.2 with the necessary NIC drivers?
2) How do I access the terminal from USB installer or installed ClearOS 7.2 (without NIC drivers)?
3) Can somebody help compile/provide the necessary drivers to me?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.
Best Regards,
Eric
