ClearOS 7.7.0 for Community has been release. You can read more about this release on the release notes page here:
https://sfj48-fkj200.heiksthsd.cf/resources/documentation/clearos/content:en_us:announcements_releases_clearos_7.7.0_community_release_information
Please post any issues related to this release here. This release merges the kernel back to upstream and brings broad compatibility with a variety of hardware devices that have CentOS or RHEL driver.
If your update get's stuck, you want to manually install and not wait for automated updates and you want to fast track the process, run the following:
yum update app-base
yum clean all
yum update
[edit]
Please note that if you use any of the ElRepo drivers (kmod-*) compiled by Nick Howitt, apart from the kmod-r8168 and kmod-r8169, you will need to install new versions that you can get directly from one of the Elrepo Mirrors

Hello Christoph, it looks like you've hit on a bug in the upgrade script which manipulates the repos. It should have removed "samba-*" from the "exclude" line but did not. The script fails as the string to remove is the last one in the exclude line. You can remove manually all three occurrences of "samba-*" from /etc/yum.repos.d/clearos-centos.repo or wait for us to push an update.
[edit]
You can remove the .rpmnew and .old files from here if you want.

I can't seem to install at all.
Not using the iso I've downloaded in Juli and used successfully several times. Downloaded a new iso with 7.7 but both installs get stuck on the updating part.
manually updating does the same.
Error: Exception: global name 'wc_repos' is not defined
It's in gateway mode and the external NIC is bridged (DNS lookup succeeded! etc).
The console screenshot makes the most sense to you guys I think. -

Thanks for the notice. They must have sneaked that one in without an announcement as I could swear it was not there a couple of days ago. Even looking at my bash history I can see I did a wget on 8.046.00-1 and that does not even show now in the mirror I am using. I added the ".1" in case anyone had the other version installed on the ClearOS kernel as we had to force an update for the Centos kernel.
As we now have a Centos kernel in 7.7, the Elrepo kernels should work directly so there is no intention to recompile them for ClearOS. There is, according to me, one issue that leaves in that the Elrepo version blacklists the r8169 module whereas mine does not. As a counter-point, to reliably run my r8168 driver you also have to run the kmod-r8169 as that removes the RTL8111/8168/8411 NIC from the PCI ID's it will load against. I had a discussion with the Elrepo team suggesting the link their r8139(?), r8168 and r8169 drivers making them all depend on each other and stop blacklisting the r8169 driver in their r8139 and r8168 drivers, but they wouldn't budge. If you use their r8168 driver and you also use any r8169 card, you either have to comment out the blacklisting or remove the blacklist file entirely, or you have to force the r8169 to load in /etc/sysconfig/modules.
I'll have to ask Dave about it. I guess we could just mirror the Elrepo or inject the individual drivers when needed. I believe Elrepo have a neat yum plugin to only present drivers as available when the kernel has been updated as they release their drivers in line with the RHEL release and this breaks yum for distros which are derived from RHEL if they don't upgrade at the same time. -

Thanks for the response... The update was
r8168-kmod-8.047.04-1.el7_7.elrepo.src.rpm 2019-09-26 13:55 124K
Was aware of the r8168/69 problem. Just wondered it you thought it worthwile to compile a newer ".clearos." version, that's all...
I now have 5 machines running the "047" elrepo r8168 version OK with CentOS 7.7 (no 8169)... -

I also noticed the file date which is why I checked my bash history from a few days ago to confirm I had downloaded v8.046 which is no longer available on the mirror I use. I suspect September is the file creation date and it has recently been moved from Elrepo testing to production. Compiling should be pretty easy, but I don't know Dave's intentions. Do we just use Elrepo directly from them or do we recompile? -

Better find a better mirror :-) as of now I still see...

I downloaded my copy of 047 on the 11th Oct in preperation of the updates just completed - no idea how long it had already been there...
Can confirm the elrepo 047 version still blacklists the r8169 driver. -

I rebooted my server earlier today after updating to 7.7.1 (kernel 3.10.0-1062.1.2.el7.x86_64). The server failed to connect to the network. I rebooted it again and it failed to contact again. I had to unplug the network cable and reconnect it in order to make system recognizes the correct connection speed (it was showing 10Mb/s instead of 1000Mb/s) and other values.
I haven’t rebooted the system after that and don’t know whether it would unrecognize the link again or not after reboot. -
Accepted Answer
Can you reboot and select the previous kernel. Then from the command line do:
Do you know if, by any chance, you are using any of the kmod drivers I have previously supplied? If you are, apart from the kmod-r8168 and kmod-r8169, you will need to source the drivers directly from elrepo.org.lspci -k | grep Eth -A 3

Sie können versuchen, mit --skip-broken das Problem zu umgehen.
Sie könnten Folgendes versuchen: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

I hate reading that output in English. It is even harder in German. To me it looks like it is not trying to update samba-client at all which is weird. Please correct me if I've missed it.
What is the output to:yum list samba-client --show-duplicates
Hi Nick,
sorry for the German in the output.
Your understanding is correct. It is complaining about samba.

Actually none of these files have been configured by me. This is one of my test VMs but actually I see the same issues also on other machines.

Hi Nick,
OK I tried it on my test VM and the update of the sama packages went well.
Thank you very much for your quick support.

Do you know if, by any chance, you are using any of the kmod drivers I have previously supplied? If you are, apart from the kmod-r8168 and kmod-r8169, you will need to source the drivers directly from elrepo.org.lspci -k | grep Eth -A 3

I booted the system into the previous kernel and got the same error! It turned out that the system fails to connect the external network if there is a connected lan link! I had to disconnect lan ports in order for the external port to connect, then reconnect the lans! I don't know what causes this, but I'll open a thread in this forum in case I couldn't figure it out.
Thank you. -

Check you are in Gateway mode with a different subnet on your LAN and WAN.
The system is in stand-alone mode. I added a network card with two ports to use them for virtual machines (running Kimchi app / kvm). Clearos recognizes the network card's ports as LAN ports, but I've never configured them in clearos. -

Dave has indicated there my be a workaround but it requires a fresh install. Can you do the install, then before you do the first-run wizard in the browser, drop to the command line (alt+f2 from the console or use PuTTy) then do a "yum update", ignoring the warnings about not being registered. Then you should be able to proceed with the first-run wizard. -
