Conrad, Truly apologize for this issue.

    Issue:
Ben has shut off the Dynamic DNS System... It's not right but the current reality.

    Solution:
You can log in to your account here: https://secure.clearcenter.com/portal and replace DNS servers / then redirect your MX Record / then unlock your domain using this URL https://secure.clearcenter.com/portal/dns.jsp# / then click VIEW / then click WHOIS then manage your domain ownership if you don't want to use the Dynamic DNS Server Services. Click Domain Lock to No and Authorize Code (aka EPP Code) by Sending the unlock code to your email address.

Again truly apologize this is an issue.

Ben turned off the Dynamic DNS, Internal Email System, and Payment API as he feels he has not gotten enough money from prior agreements that were paid off and completed years ago. So either he and Nick could take the ClearCenter Customers or just kill the ClearOS Server / ClearCenter business as we were not able/willing to pay the ransom.

Ben is an amazing human and friend, but it is sad to see this intentional outage, as it hurts everyone and is not right. I believe ClearOS Server has a solid future as is and has been, and many are still willing to support it, just not in the same way he and others did prior.

I am sure he feels his intentions are good but we are at an impasse here and the customers are the ones feeling it. For which I am very sorry and sad.

Is this not the man who constantly sends e-mails with the offer of a paid update of the ClearOS?

There have been no paid updates to ClearOS since the end of July '22. The same goes for the Community version.

May we ask for assistance to change password so we will be able to do a redirect. We cannot change password because the domain of our email is the one that is down.

Yes. Under these types of missing password email resets then please email [email protected] for help getting your password reset or account correctly configured.

Can't anyone with admin access to the portal do it like yourself or W Randolph?

If we are into giving out emails, Michael Proper can be contacted at [email protected] and Wally Randolph can be contacted at [email protected]. Both should have admin access to the portal so can fix your issue.

Apparently Nick Howitt, a former Clearcenter employee, can provide updates for a small charge and professional support and it seems he can be contacted at [email protected].

If the Payment API has been turned off, then I presume that kills all revenue from the Marketplace? Unless Clearcenter have another source of revenue, I would assume ClearOS is now dead. Already the Digital Ocean server servers have stopped working bring all the repos, the document server and other services down. If this is for financial reasons, I wonder how much longer the AWS servers have got? This site and the secure.clearcenter.com portal are AWS.

It is very surprising that no one warned the users that this would happen :( It would be possible to make mirrors and work for some time until there is a solution

    Can someone unconfuse me please?

is there a way to get my email server working again after the domain has been transferred to a new registry?

    i have:

    1. ensured the dns servers are pointed at the new location.

    2. manually updated the ip address associated with the A record

Copy over all your DNS records, not just the A records, to your new registrar and then update the NS records to point to your registrar's DNS servers. Pay particular attention to the MX record and any TXT records for SPF, DKIM and DMARC, if you use them. If you don't use them, make sure you at least add an SPF record.

Thanks Donald. I have double checked that all DNS records have been copied over but there is still an issue.

On my COS 7.5 server shows connection failure everywhere.

The connection issue is because of the earlier mentioned issue because some Clearcenter services have been shut down. It has nothing to do with you not receiving mail. I've sent you a PM.

Only if there is a sane business plan. I'm no developer, but I would definitely be willing to help with the businesscase and figuring out the minimal viable product.
I see an opportunity since NethServer kind of dropped the ball in the direction they took. I now work with Zentyal (and Microsoft), and Zentyal is at a public beta state from my experience.
I'd prefer it if someone else did it, but someone should pick this up.

I don't have the programming experience but I can tinker and I'd be happy to assist.

Some things you'd need to consider:

    • How would you monetise the project or is everyone doing it for free?
    • If you are going to monetise it (support contracts?), you need to set up a store front end and a back end for it.
    • The Marketplace would need to be rewritten/replaced.
    • The registration system needs the same.
    • A build environment would be needed.
    • A new forum would be needed.
    • Some form of distro hosting would be needed, which may involve mirrors.
    • The underlying O/S is Centos7 which is now end of life. What OS are you going to base it on? Alma and Rocky are in the same family, or if you mistrust RedHat for what they have done and may continue to do, Something like Debian or Ubuntu, but they have shorter lifecycles.
    • The Webconfig is in PHP5.4 so this, at a minimum, would need to be upgraded to a later version or completely rewritten?
    • MariaDB is in a similar position.
    • If you stay in the RedHat camp, OpenLDAP is no longer supported by RedHat, so a replacement may be needed. I think it is available from EPEL. Samba AD/DC could be a possibility but see below.
    • The ClearOS Windows Domain offering uses NT4 domains which were last used by Microsoft in 2013 and should be considered dead. They still work but Samba is removing support (and may have done in its current versions - ClearOS is well out of date) and Microsoft may at any time.
    • If you are going to replace the old NT4 domains with Samba AD/DC functionality, like the competition uses, Flexshares will have to be revisited as the Samba permission system on AD/DC servers does not support Unix-style permissions. It is not recommended by Samba to have AD/DC functionality on the same box as fileserver functionality, but I believe it can work.

You'd be considering starting from scratch real quick. Actually forking ClearOS would be like starting a race driving from a passenger seat.
Whatever OS you use as a base, it should be stable first. Not only bug free, but should also be free of management troubles. Debian, SUSE and even FreeBSD come to mind.

Do not use the application, but configure Dynamic DNS manually, for example, ddclient, ddnsc
