Hi,
Just a question.
I've 2 NIC in my server.
1. INTEL PRO/1000 CT SINGLE PORT>
2. INTEL PRO/1000 PT DUAL PORT
My external NIC is #1 and local #2.(only 1 port)
Can i remove NIC #1 and use External and Internal on my DUAL NIC ? or is this not a good idea to do or give me any benefit.
thanks for sharing to opinion

I don't see any problem with changing. You will get a minor power saving if you pull the CT. The CT is older tech using the PCI bus whereas the PT is PCI-e. Technically you'll struggle to get 1Gb/s out of the CT as the PCI bus is shared between all devices on it and 1Gb/s is about the bus's top limit. To max out the PT on both ports you'll need to put it in an x4, x8 or x16 slot. To max out a single port in an x1 slot is OK. I used to run a PT in an x16 slot.
Also the CT is claimed to be a desktop adaptor whereas the PT is described as a server adaptor. I'm not sure why, but I think I read something ages ago that the server adaptors support extra features.
